A well-established export trading company is seeking a dynamic, target driven Business Development Manager, based in Bellville, Cape Town, with experience in exporting wine and alcohol 

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving profitable sales growth and expanding the customer base.  The role requires strong negotiation skills to secure new business and encourage existing customers to expand their product range

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Successfully close sales deals through negotiation and persuasion
  • Meet or exceed sales performance targets
  • Identify and capitalize on market opportunities
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Manage existing accounts while expanding the customer base
  • Oversee logistics to ensure seamless order fulfilment
  • Monitor and follow-up on debt collection
  • Prepare for client meetings and business trips
  • Provide regular market and client feedback
  • Ensure compliance with international market regulations
  • Participate in trade shows and industry events

Minimum Requirements:  

Education and Experience:

  • Matric certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of wine sales experience in an export environment with a proven track record of achieving sales targets
  • Strong background in business development, including opening new accounts
  • Clear criminal and credit record
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Ability to travel internationally every six weeks for approximately 10 days    

Knowledge and Skills:     

  • In-depth knowledge of wine varieties, grape selection and food pairings
  • Understanding of Incoterms and international trade
  • Experience with Qlikview/Qliksense for data analysis and insights   
  • Strong networking, sales and negotiation skills
  • Commercial awareness, business acumen, and objection-handling expertise
  • Analytical ability to interpret business data and identify growth opportunities
  • Project Management and Budget execution skills   
  • Strong business acumen and sound judgement

Salary:

  • Market related / monthly salary plus commission
