Job Description

Our client, based in KZN, designs and manufactures fully recyclable plastic containers for industrial, agricultural, and food applications, specializing in technical functionality and impactful decoration. Their high-speed extrusion blow molding facilities are located nationwide, with extensive sales and distribution networks across southern Africa. They partner with customers to develop optimal solutions by managing the entire process from design to manufacture and delivery. Their extended services include technical field support, analytical testing, and microbiological analysis offered by the Quality Services division. Design First provides in-house packaging research, development, and creative design support, working closely with the dedicated mold design, manufacture, and maintenance division, Mould Services.

 

We have a position available in the KZN Region for a Qualified Production Engineer to manage our client's new factory. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including machine and plant maintenance, team management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Competencies:

  • Engineering Degree (BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics) essential; National Diplomas considered with strong relevant experience.
  • 3-4 years of experience in an Engineering role within a Manufacturing environment, packaging or FMCG-related.
  • Understanding of Continuous Production processes
  • Logical and critical thinking skills.
  • Willingness to work in a Production environment/factory floor.
  • Experience in a continuous high-speed production environment, preferably in packaging or FMCG

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Responsible for all machine and plant maintenance.
  • Managing the Production team to ensure high performance and motivation.
  • Ensuring machines achieve or exceed efficiencies of >85% sustainably.
  • Identifying and achieving measurable technical and process improvements.
  • Ensuring critical spares are in stock and managed effectively.
  • Upholding engineering excellence within the Plant.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment by implementing Safety Best Practices.
  • Consistently maintaining Housekeeping and ISO standards.
  • Collaborating with Production on continuous improvement projects.
