South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a 12-month opportunity available for a Post-Doctoral Study based in Mount Edgecombe, KwaZulu-Natal. The opportunity A post-doctoral position is available in the Crop Biology Resource Centre at the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI). This position is funded by SASRI for an initial period of one year, which may be renewable for a further year. The position is available from 1 June 2025. The position is open to South African residents. The project focuses oninvestigating and developing new approaches for point of care (PoC) diagnostics using Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology to detect a bacterial pathogen of sugarcane, Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli.This technology is known for its high sensitivity, specificity and tolerance to inhibiting-substances. Point-of-care LAMP platforms designed with the principles of microfluidic chip technology, including LAMP-on-a-chip, paper-based LAMP, and smartphone-based LAMP applications have been reported.
