FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

My client, a leader in the FMCG space is currently looking for a Financial Accountant to join their team in Durban.  In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing  financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing strategic insights to support their business objectives. You will drive process improvements, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. Responsibilities include:

• Debtors Management: Oversee the collection and escalation of outstanding debt, manage debtor reconciliations and reports, handle customer queries, interest charges, and duty recoveries.
• Monitor and manage company credit risk, ensuring no releases are given to customers outside their approved credit limits.
• Provide timely and accurate reports to management, including risk reports, exposure reports, credit limit summaries, and bad debt calculations.
• Supervise and empower the Accounts Payable Clerk.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end accounting tasks according to the timeline.

Reporting

• Prepare and report month-end cost centre P&Ls and business case P&L.
• Submit Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual COGNOS files after Financial Manager review, including handling queries and Budget vs Actual comparisons.
• Compile monthly reconciliations and GP analysis as per month-end P&Ls.
• Maintain the mapping of Management Reporter P&L and Balance Sheet reports.
• Assist the Financial Manager with the year-end financial audit.

Finance & Accounting

• Review reconciliations.
• Oversee broker analysis.
• Review fair value accounting entries for imports, local, FX, and forward contracts.
• Ensure GL Balance Sheet Reconciliation prepared by direct reports is accurate and timely, resolving any queries promptly.
• Run "Goods received and not invoiced" 

Supervision & Management

• Supervise and empower the Financial Administrator.
• Supervise and empower the Finance Assistant.

Stock Management

• Review stock revaluation compiled by the Finance Assistant.
• Ensure the Stock finance process is efficient.

Trade Support Management

• Manage daily position reports.
• Oversee sales and purchase contracts.
• Manage weekly trading P&L reports for physicals and futures

Procurement and Accounts Payable

• Manage the procurement function to ensure purchase contracts are accurately and timely prepared.
• Serve as backup for the Financial Manager for the approval of new vendors

Banking

• Serve as backup for the Financial Manager for the second release of payments/beneficiaries.
