Manufacturing Manager

 

Our client, an international Metals Manufacturing company based in Durban, has an exciting vacancy qualified Manufacturing Manager in the Operations & Manufacturing Department. This position reports to the Head of Operations. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full manufacturing function, transforming raw materials into finished goods while ensuring safety and achieving production volume with acceptable product quality levels.
  • Develop and follow realistic production schedules.
  • Effectively manage individuals and teams.
  • Drive continuous 5S improvements in controlled areas, utilizing Gemba walks to define and implement remedial and improvement actions.
  • Assess training and development needs, ensuring succession planning within the operations department.
  • Stay updated on technical and process developments, advising on and implementing cost-effective improvements.
  • Provide feedback and guidance at CIC (Continuous Improvement Centre) meetings to the Head of Operations-FSA and the Ops team.
  • Align short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance and servicing of machinery, tooling, and equipment to address production issues.
  • Manage departmental budgets.
  • Maintain acceptable quality levels according to the ISO Quality Management System.
  • Develop employees to exceed customer expectations in products and services.
  • Handle performance and industrial relations matters for staff in the respective departments.

 

Requirements and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of production experience in the Metal Industry, Automotive Industry, or a similar field.
  • At least 3 years in a Production Management role, in a unionized environment, managing a large staff complement.
  • Management of around 100 employees, indirectly - 3 foremen directly
  • Strong focus on 5S, LEAN, Management & IR.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Preferably an Engineering degree/diploma or Diploma in Production Management (NQF Level 6/7).
  • Experience in Project Management and Industrial Relations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office at an intermediate level.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills in English.
  • Competence in interpersonal relationship management.
  • Self-management skills.
  • Highly professional with a strong character.
  • In-depth understanding and practical application of Lean Manufacturing Principles.

 

Position is based in Durban.
