Job Title: Technical Trainer

 

Our client, a market leader in the FMCG/manufacturing sector & distributor of tissue and hygiene products across retail and B2B channels, is looking to hire a Technical Trainer based in the East Rand. This role is integral to enhancing employee capability in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting converting machinery, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are consistently met.

 

Qualifications & Experience required:
Education:

  • Technical Trade (Fitter) or National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Education, or related field.  Note: This is not an HR role, a candidate from a HR background will not be suited.
  • Certifications in technical training or safety (e.g., Certified Technical Trainer, ISO 9001, OSHA) are advantageous.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a converting or paper manufacturing environment, coming from a technical role into a training role.
  • Having built a training framework from scratch
  • Hands-on knowledge of tissue converting machinery and automation systems.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering technical training in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with equipment such as Perini, PCMC, Fabio Perini, or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate in English as a 1st language and also Zulu/Sepedi would be highly beneficial.

 

Key Responsibilities

Training Program Development

  • Build & develop technical training materials (manuals, videos, hands-on content) for tissue converting machinery and processes.
  • Create and maintain curricula aligned with production goals, OEM specs, and regulatory standards.

Training Delivery

  • Conduct structured, in-person and hands-on training for operators, technicians, and maintenance teams.
  • Train on tissue rewinders, automated packaging lines, and related equipment using adult learning principles.

Needs Assessment & Evaluation

  • Identify skill gaps in collaboration with production, maintenance, and QA teams.
  • Evaluate performance through assessments and on-the-job observations.
  • Improve training programs based on feedback and operational outcomes.

Compliance & Safety Integration

  • Embed safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, PPE, guarding) and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, OSHA) into training.
  • Train on quality control, waste reduction, and raw material handling in tissue converting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with OEMs, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure training reflects current practices.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and align training with HR and production strategies.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain training records, certification logs, and attendance.
  • Report on training outcomes, skills progress, and compliance metrics.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with tissue converting technologies and automation trends.
  • Introduce innovative training methods (e.g., simulations, interactive modules).
  • Recommend process and training enhancements to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.

 

Requirements

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Technical troubleshooting ability and practical problem-solving.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and training software.

 

Working Conditions

  • Predominantly based on the production floor of a tissue converting plant.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, and dust (full PPE provided).
  • Training activities may require standing for extended periods and hands-on machine interaction.
