The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing the production and supply of high-quality insects of any life stage, in the numbers required, and to undertake applied research of insect rearing practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and maintaining Quality Control (QC) of all insect life stages
- Responsible for managing all hygiene practices throughout the IRU
- In conjunction with the Research Entomologist, developing new routine insect-rearing methods and quality control procedures for all life stages reared as well as managing staff, facility, and apparatus requirements
- Training of new staff, students and interns in routine procedures and rearing methods to ensure they understand and implement the standard operating procedures and rearing methods
- Procuring for the IRU and related research projects all specialised consumables and equipment using the SASA Procurement online system
- Assisting with the preparation and management of IRU budgets
