Job Description

Our client, market leader in the automotive manufacturing sector is looking to hire a Quality Manager, based close to La Mercy. The purpose of the Quality Manager is to ensure products are of a consistent standard and quality in line with ISO 9001 and customer specifications and requirements 

Educational Requirement & Experience:

  • Matric
  • National Diploma or degree in Quality related qualification
  • ISO 9001 & ISO 1400 Qualification
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in a supervisory / management role, within the automotive/ press steel sector
  • Good knowledge of steel grades, properties and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards, ISO 9001 in an automotive environment
  • Good understanding of quality aspects of processes and production flows
  • Safety first, LEAN and process mindset
  • Sound systems knowledge, quality system audit, control and implementation.
  • Use of Problem-solving tools (7 QC Tools, 8D)
  • Understanding of Sub assembly, weld schedules and weld quality and dimensional testing 

Job Description:

  • Understand customer's quality needs and requirements for each product.
  • Ensure there are SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to govern quality and that everyone is trained and equipped to perform their specific role.
  • Conduct scheduled quality checks and addresses identified issues.
  • Liaise with Maintenance to fix machine defects and to implement countermeasures to prevent quality-related defects.
  • Work with Maintenance to plan for new models and do trials to ensure dies work on our machines and that they produce products to specification.
  • Monitor daily quality results and create weekly and monthly quality reports.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 quality certification.
  • Monitor and report on scrap loss to reduce wastage.
  • On being flagged by Production, inspect and isolate quality issues and liaise / claim with supplier
  • Ensure supplier claims are submitted promptly and that root causes are properly analysed and addressed.
  • Drive adherence to scheduled legal and compliance training for the department.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer to understand and anticipate their quality requirements. Communicate with them around quality-related issues to ensure their needs are met.
  • Liaise with parts/materials suppliers on quality related issues and work with them to resolve defects.
  • Drive collaboration between Production, Quality and Maintenance to ensure an aligned quality approach.
  • Maintain contact with Procurement Department to resolve supplier issues.
  • Set the pace and tone for the department and ensure everyone is focused on the right priorities in line with evolving customer needs and requirements.
  • Drives negotiation with customer on quality relates issues.
  • Remains abreast of updates on new developments in measurement techniques and application of these techniques to appropriate Inspection / testing requirements.
  • Supplier Audit & Approval for new supply initiation.
  • Ensure planning for product quality from 'Development stage', APQP, with the use of proper gauging and process Control techniques.
