Job Description

Our Client, an International Clearing and Forwarding company, is seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Export Controller to join their team in Montague Gardens, Cape Town. Projects experience is beneficial.
If you have a solid background in ocean freight exports and enjoy working in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment, this is a fantastic opportunity. Experience with projects will be a distinct advantage.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Grade 12 essential; SDS and/or Freight Forwarding qualification advantageous
  • Minimum 3 years in clearing & forwarding (Ocean Freight Export)
  • CargoWise experience
  • Knowledge of Incoterms, export tariffs, and Customs clearance processes
  • Familiar with third-party regulatory requirements

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong customer service orientation
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Confident communicator (verbal & written in English)
  • Basic financial acumen (understanding of debits/credits)
  • Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Able to manage large volumes and work under pressure
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Adaptable, organised, and proactive in a changing environment

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent client service and proactively communicate any delays or issues
  • Manage timely dispatch and tracking of cargo
  • Accurately process all data and documentation within CargoWise (CW) in a paperless environment
  • Liaise with internal teams (Brokerage, Transport, Warehouse) and external stakeholders (Shipping Lines, Customs, Third Parties)
  • Ensure customs clearance readiness and documentation compliance
  • Secure release of equipment at least 3 working days before stack dates
  • Manage costs: ensure accurate billing, job costing, and profitability
  • Maintain up-to-date CW status reports (min 3x per week or per client SOP)
  • Resolve queries professionally and within agreed timelines
  • Arrange cargo insurance and process claims where necessary
  • Participate in team meetings, SOP compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives
