Job Description

A well-established tissue manufacturing company, serving both retail and business-to-business markets across South Africa and neighbouring countries, is looking for a skilled and technically minded Production Manager based in Kempton Park to oversee operations at their converting facility.

 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and managing all production-related activities to ensure operational excellence, adherence to quality standards, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical aptitude and the ability to drive process improvements while effectively managing people and resources.

 

Requirements:

  • Qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial) Degree preferred
  • Proven experience in a production or operations management role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in tissue converting or a related field.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on exposure to production equipment and processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute production schedules efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and quality control systems.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight: Manage all stages of the tissue converting production process to ensure products are manufactured efficiently, cost-effectively, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead, supervise, and develop the production workforce-including shift leaders and machine operators-ensuring proper training, skills development, and performance management.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Develop, implement, and maintain daily and long-term production plans to meet delivery timelines and optimize productivity.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor product quality during all production phases, ensuring strict adherence to internal quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Champion workplace safety by enforcing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the factory floor.
  • Process & Efficiency Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancement, waste reduction, and cost optimization while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Inventory Coordination: Collaborate closely with inventory and procurement teams to ensure availability of raw materials, monitor stock levels, and coordinate material requirements for production.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve operational and technical issues as they arise on the production floor, implementing sustainable corrective actions to maintain smooth operations.
